Sunday Training Synopsis

Training is in full force here…finally!  With three half marathons on the calendar this fall, and possibly a fourth, being half marathon ready is more more than necessary.  Thankfully hanging that runDisney training plan on my fridge seems to be incredibly motivating for me.  Checking off each run is rewarding…kind of like little kids and sticker rewards charts.  Maybe I should get some stickers?   But I digress…

I am currently training for the following:

9/11 – Harrisburg Half Marathon

9/24 – Diva Half Marathon DC

11/5&6 – Lumiere’s Two Course Challenge (Wine & Dine 10K and Half Marathon)

I’m running Harrisburg with my hubby and Diva and Wine & Dine with my bestie Jan!  (I’m not sure if I’m more excited about running the half marathons, or having a girls weekend away????)

I started the week off with a 4 mile run on Monday.  Since I missed the “long” run over the weekend I just started my week off with it.  After all, it’s “only” four miles.  Seriously though it was the longest I’d run in a while!  LOL!

On Thursday I had the worst run of the week, and the shortest.  The humidity was horrendous!  So even early in the morning running was miserable.  It felt like Florida out there!

Then Saturday I did my long run of the week and ran a 10K.  I explored a beautiful trail, where I learned I need bug spray when I run there!  But I had a great run.  I felt strong, which was encouraging after such inconsistent training since I know I have to start amping my mileage up in preparation for the September halves.  The weather was decided more cooperative and I saw a better pace per mile than on Thursday’s humid run.

All in all I was very pleased with my training this week.  After our move and all the changes our family has gone through this past month it’s nice to get back into my running routine.  I am in a decidedly better mood on the days that I run so I’m sure my family appreciates that!  Here’s to another week of training and meeting goals!  I can’t wait for my next race and the upcoming racecations with my BRF!

On the training plan for this week are 30-45 minute maintenance runs on Tuesday and Thursday and 8 miles on Saturday.  For daily updates, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram!  What’s on your training plan this week?

Sparkle Skirts Review

I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz lately in online running groups about what to wear when you run.  I was kind of married to my Old Navy Active compression capris.  I have a really hard time finding something that doesn’t fall down on me and they were my best option.  I used a Running Buddy to carry my phone and the worked for the most part.  After over a year of listening to my cupcakes not just talk about, but RAVE about, Sparkle Skirts I began to wonder if I should give them a try.

There were a couple things that held me back initially.  They are a little pricey.  Definitely more than your Old Navy or Wal Mart capris.  The shorts worried me.  They claimed they didn’t ride up, but I had nightmares about the chaffing that would ensue from running in shorts.  Ok, those were really my only two concerns.  But they were big ones!

Then Sparkle Skirts had a sale with free shipping, and low and behold, I purchased my first skirt!  Tropical Breeze swing is so pretty and I just couldn’t resist.  So I stalked the mail and waited, not so patiently, for my new pretty to arrive in the mail.

Trying Tropical Breeze on right after it arrived!

When it did arrive I did some tests…jumping jacks, squats, etc to see if it would fall down and it stayed up through the test.  I wore it twice around town, to events where I was going to be outside in the FL heat and humidity, and was complimented on it, and comfortable throughout the events.  It was nice to be hands free and have my phone in my pocket.

Rocking Haunted on a recent run!

But the true test came on my first run.  I did have to pull the skirt up, but what I noticed is that with my short torso I really have to Steve Urkel my skirts and capris and then I don’t have as many issues with them falling down.  Once I solved that problem I knew I wouldn’t want to run in anything else!  I love my Sparkle Skirt!  I wear them with the kangeroo pouch in back where I put my phone so I can run my headphones up the back of my shirt.  (I really need to invest in a wireless headset for running!)  And guess what, I am now the proud owner of FOUR Sparkle Skirts so I have plenty to wear for my Wine & Dine Half, as well as my Glass Slipper Challenge training.  They are truly addicting!

My little collection!

My little collection!

One of the nice things is that Sparkle Skirts has a couple different styles you can choose from.  All of my pretties are the “Swing” style.  They also have “Hiker” which are two inches longer than the swing style.  They also have slim cut and vented slim so there are plenty of styles to choose from, and it gives you the opportunity to run in something that suites your body type best.  Oh, and they come in sizes XS to 3XL so there is one for everyone!

So, if you’re on the fence about whether or not to spend the money on a Sparkle Skirt, or whether they’re as great as everyone says they are, just bite the bullet it and get one!  Once you go Sparkle, you’ll never go back!
