My training for Wine and Dine has been swimming along quite nicely, but my lack of a laptop has made blogging a little more difficult. Hopefully I’ll get it to Apple sooner than later so I can get up and running again.
With Wine and Dine next week I am so happy to say that we are in taper mode. Due to the crazy rain here this week we didn’t run yesterday, but should be able to get in a 30 minute maintenance run on Thursday and a 4 miler on Saturday. We’ll do our Tuesday and Thursday maintenance runs next week before heading off to Disney!
This past Saturday we did a 13 miler as our last long run for Wine & Dine. It was such a weird run. We were a little chatty at the beginning, but still keeping a decent pace. However, I hit a wall around 8.5-9 miles, which was an odd time to do that for me. We ended up with about a 15 minute per mile pace. Not my strongest run at about a minute and a half to two minutes slower than my normal pace. But I was able to push through at the end and run some strong intervals so I’m going to hope that I got this fluke out of my system and we’re ready for Wine and Dine! I don’t want to see those balloon ladies next weekend!
My husband has been a great encouragement and running partner during Wine and Dine training. I think we’ve finally gotten this running together thing down. I just may have to keep him around while training for Princess!
How are all the fellow Wine and Diners feeling about their prep for next weekends race! It should be a lot of fun!

Summer is upon us, and in Florida that means the temperatures are already heating up! My last few runs have been pretty miserable for a number of reasons. (More to come on that later.) But the heat has me thinking that I need some options first and foremost to hydrate during my runs and second, to fuel during long runs.
I currently run with a Running Buddy pouch to hold my phone. For the most part my Enchanted 10K training was during cooler weather so it was all I needed. I love the Running Buddy for keeping my hands free while I run, and not having to wear the dreaded armband! It holds my iPhone 5 great, but I did have some issues trying to stuff it too full during the Enchanted 10K and ended up holding it most of the race. So for shorter runs where I don’t need a lot it’s great, but it doesn’t have any hydration options. I’m contemplating getting a Nathan Speed Draw Insulated Flask to compliment the Running Buddy and provide me with much needed hydration in the FL heat and humidity while I run.
The question is whether this option, which seems great for my current training regimen, will be enough for the longer runs required for the half training. I’ve been contemplating some kind of running belt. I’ve heard great things about FlipBelts, SpiBelts and a Fitletic belt. The problem is it’s hard to take the dive and make an investment in one of these options when you’re not sure if it will work for you.

A while back I decided I was going to run at 5K at Disney. This seemed like an insurmountable goal for a girl who could barely run a mile in high school, when I weighed a whole lot less. Finding out I was pregnant pushed that goal back to 2015, as I knew I wouldn’t be ready to tackle this challenge right after having a baby. Then I had a crazy thought…with all this time to train, why not run a 10K too? Right? Why not? After all, it would be a good way to “lose the baby weight” and get back in shape.
It’s been a long road so far. I started out with C25K, and have switched to the Jeff Galloway program. It just fits my running style better. Tomorrow I am to set out and run FIVE miles. FIVE. Just for fun. I must be crazy! But I am determined to accomplish this goal!
This journey has not always been easy. I have struggled through some runs. I have struggled just to get out of bed some mornings. What I’ve learned about myself though is that I am capable of so much more than I believe. I honestly wasn’t sure that I could complete a 10K when I signed up, and I still have moments of doubt, but my head is in the game and I firmly believe that I will cross that finish line in February without being swept!
And the crazy thing is I just might continue running. I may even have my eyes set on a half the next time. Funny how one step and one goal can change us!
So here’s to running. To earning bling. To becoming a better me one stride at a time.
