What I Wore Wednesday: Fuel and Hydrate Edition

Summer is upon us, and in Florida that means the temperatures are already heating up!  My last few runs have been pretty miserable for a number of reasons.  (More to come on that later.)  But the heat has me thinking that I need some options first and foremost to hydrate during my runs and second, to fuel during long runs.

I currently run with a Running Buddy pouch to hold my phone.  For the most part my Enchanted 10K training was during cooler weather so it was all I needed.  I love the Running Buddy for keeping my hands free while I run, and not having to wear the dreaded armband!  It holds my iPhone 5 great, but I did have some issues trying to stuff it too full during the Enchanted 10K and ended up holding it most of the race.  So for shorter runs where I don’t need a lot it’s great, but it doesn’t have any hydration options.  I’m contemplating getting a Nathan Speed Draw Insulated Flask to compliment the Running Buddy and provide me with much needed hydration in the FL heat and humidity while I run.

The question is whether this option, which seems great for my current training regimen, will be enough for the longer runs required for the half training.   I’ve been contemplating some kind of running belt.  I’ve heard great things about FlipBelts, SpiBelts and a Fitletic belt.  The problem is it’s hard to take the dive and make an investment in one of these options when you’re not sure if it will work for you.

If you run half marathons, or are training for one, what do you use to carry water/hydrate and fuel during your runs?  Through this novice girl a bone and share your wealth of knowledge with me by commenting below with what works for you and why you love it!

What I Wore Wednesday

This is a what I will wear edition as I’ve been contemplating my outfits for Princess Half Marathon weekend.  The 5K and 10K this weekend are my first races and in an effort to distract myself from my fear I’m dreaming up costumes to sport during the races.

Ariel is my favorite princess EVER so I want to dress as her.  At first I wanted to figure out something with the sailcloth, but not being a seamstress in any way, shape or form,  I think I am going to go with “Kiss the Girl” Ariel from the village tour with Prince Eric.  I found a cute running skirt on Etsy that I’ll wear with running tights and a black tank top.  (I’d love to fashion a black corset and white top if I get crafty.)  Thanks to Polyvore, I put together a cute example of my race costume for the Enchanted 10K.

Have you ever run in costume?  Do you have plans to dress up for any of the races Princess Half weekend?  Who do plan on dressing up as?

What to Wear Wednesday – Disney Cruise Edition!

Once upon a time I would put together outfits, put on makeup, do my hair and head out for the day, or just to go to the market.  Along came kids and suddenly I was lucky to put on a clean shirt and yoga pants!  So when faced with a cruise I was totally conflicted on what to pack, but most importantly was left asking myself what to wear!  I’m sure I can’t be the only person asking this so to the best of my ability I’ve put together my key outfits for you to give you an idea of what to wear on your next cruise!

I sailed on the Disney Magic on a 3-Night Bahamian cruise with stops at Nassau, Bahamas and Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.

Day 1: Embarkation/Sail Away

For this day I wanted to be comfortable since I would be spending some time at the resort at Disney World for breakfast and a little shopping at Downtown Disney, but also quite a bit of time on a bus between the resort and Port Canaveral.  I settled on white pixie ankle pants from Old Navy and a sheer blue blouse with anchors over a white Old Navy tami.

Day 2: Nassau/Pirate Party

Since this was a training trip I had meetings in the morning, but planned to explore Nassau afterwards.  I wore gray, wide legged linen pants with a white top with crochet detail.  Super comfy!

For pirate night I switched into a modified pirate costume.  This was not my favorite outfit of the trip after having a baby two months prior, but it was worth being in the spirit of the evening!

Day 3: Castaway Cay

Can you say swimsuit and cover up?  Yep!  That’s what I wore during my day at the beach on Castaway Cay.  And no, there is no photographic evidence!  But the outfit I wore that evening was probably my favorite, and the most flattering.  I had purchased this dress last year for Easter.  I paired it with a turquoise belt and a Target cami.

Day 4: Debarkation

I realize I have zero pictures of this outfit, but I wore some ankle length jeans from Old Navy and an adorable Mickey Mouse shirt with a blue tank top underneath.  Comfy for the plane ride home and a nice reminder of my all too quick trip on the Magic.

In full disclosure, I really love theme outfits, parties, movie nights etc so I went a little crazy with Old Navy’s current nautical theme.  It was so convenient to do some one stop shopping and be ready to cruise!
